Success in Six Countries
As of 2012, Sopra Banking solutions have been set up in Rabobank IDB offshoots in six countries.
When Rabobank IDB began in 2002, they chose Sopra Banking Software’s core banking solution (formerly Thaler from Callataÿ & Wouters, one of Sopra Banking’s constituent parts), mainly to automate as many processes as they could. Cost-effectiveness is at the heart of the internet banking business strategy, so a lean IT system was a no-brainer for them. In addition, the bank wanted a long-term strategic partner rather than a mere software vendor.
Launched in 2002, a pilot project in Belgium went live in less than 14 weeks, and became profitable after just a year.
Because the Sopra Banking Suite was designed to adapt itself to local regulations, currencies and business practices, Rabobank IDB called upon Sopra Banking for its international expansion. Whether in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland (in partnership with the BGŽ banking group) or Germany, Sopra Banking was able to meet deadlines and customize the platform to meet local demands and regulations. By 2012, the various direct banks had accumulated over 250,000 customers. “Needless to say, it’s an investment that is paying off every day,” says Gert Bouwman, former Global Head of Rabobank IDB.
With one company to turn to for all core banking needs, the system’s cost saving aspects vis à vis traditional solutions have also enabled the bank to reinvest more into new start-ups across the world.
